Sub-Urtext Concordance

For optimal performance with Internet Explorer 6, Firefox and Opera click on option 1 below

1) Internet Explorer 6, Firefox, Opera  (recommended)

Due to a rather serious problem* with the new Internet Explorer 7 and Microsoft’s new Vista OS, we’ve had to modify our code and limit some functionality to make it work at all.  For IE 7 users, click on option 2 below.  This will also work, with the same limited functionality, on other browsers.

2) Internet Explorer 7 / VISTA bug work-around (if other browsers are unavailable)

If you’re new to Concording or this Concordance and wish some “Quick Start” pointers, click 3:

        3) Quick Start

*In the Sub-Urtext Concordance the feature which allows one to view the original photocopy side by side with our copy to check for accuracy doesn’t work with IE 7 at all.  Instead of displaying the original and the copy in adjacent frames, we’ve had to use JavaScript to put the manuscript in a pop-up window.  This is sort of ok, except the window vanishes when you scroll in the copy frame.  We’ve also had to put the Tables of Contents for all Concordances into JavaScript windows for the same reason.  Again, it’s sort of ok, except for Opera where they don’t work.

Otherwise we were able to alter the code to get the same functionality in IE 7 as we have with IE 6.  Only in the above mentioned features where we need to access more than one frame at the same time, has IE 7 proven ‘untweakable.’

We’ve found Internet Explorer 6 to be the fastest, with Firefox placing a close second.  Firefox is slower when huge amounts of text have to be scanned.  This software involves huge amounts of text!
